If your Google Business Profile is not appearing in search results, the most likely causes are that it has not been verified, the information is incomplete or inconsistent, or the profile has been suspended due to a policy issue.
Have You Verified the Profile?
Until a profile is verified, Google will not show it in search results. Verification can be done by postcard, phone, email, or video call depending on the type of business. If you set up a profile but did not complete the verification step, that is the first thing to check. Log in to Google Business Profile and look for a "Verify" or "Pending verification" banner. If your postcard never arrived, you can request a new one after a few days.
Is Your Business Category Set Correctly?
Your primary business category is one of the most important settings in your profile. If it is set incorrectly — or too broadly — Google may not show you for the specific searches you want to appear in. Make sure your primary category reflects exactly what type of business you are. A plumber should be categorised as "Plumber," not "Home Services." Add relevant secondary categories as well for additional coverage.
Could There Be a Listing Conflict or Duplicate?
Duplicate listings or address conflicts can suppress your profile from appearing. If your business has moved, changed its name, or has a duplicate profile from a previous setup, this can cause issues. Search for your business name on Google Maps and check whether there are old listings that need to be reported or merged. Google's support process for resolving duplicate listings is slow but worth doing.
Has Your Profile Been Suspended?
Google suspends profiles that appear to violate their guidelines — for example, using a virtual office address, using keyword-stuffed business names, or operating in certain regulated industries without verification. If your profile has been suspended, you will see a notification in your Business Profile dashboard. You can submit a reinstatement request, but it helps to understand which guideline was violated before submitting.
