The Problem
East Yorkshire is one name over a dozen separate markets.
The East Riding covers roughly 930 square miles and holds about 342,000 people spread across 168 parish and town councils. Almost nobody types plumber East Yorkshire into Google. They type Beverley, or Driffield, or Hornsea, because that is where they are standing when the boiler goes.
The map pack is drawn round the customer, not the county
Google builds those three map results from where the phone is. Bridlington to Goole down the A614 is the best part of an hour in a van, so one pin cannot serve both ends of the same council. Covering East Yorkshire means ranking town by town, never county-wide.
There is no capital to aim at
Bridlington is the biggest town at roughly 38,000 people, Beverley is the county town at roughly 31,000, and Hull sits in the middle of the map as a separate council with a map pack of its own. Three centres pulling three ways, so there is no one East Yorkshire search everybody uses.
A lot of your coastal customers have never met you
The holiday parks at Skipsea, Barmston and Ulrome, and the lets in Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea, belong to people who live somewhere else, because that is what a holiday home is. They pick a trade off a phone screen in February with no neighbour to ask. Thin listing, and they book whoever looks safest from two hours inland.

Not where local search is concerned. Hull is its own council with its own crowded field of trades, so a Hull search and a Beverley or Cottingham search bring back different maps and different rivals. If you work both sides of that boundary you want pages and a profile built for both, not one page that mentions the pair and ranks for neither.
Not reliably. There are around thirty miles of Wolds and coast road between Beverley and Brid, and the map pack is drawn from wherever the customer is standing, so you show strongest near your pin and fade with distance. We set an honest service area and build a page for each town you genuinely work, which takes longer to write and beats claiming the whole East Riding every time.
Quite a bit. An owner at Skipsea, Ulrome or Withernsea usually lives inland and books off-season from a phone, so the site has to answer what they cannot ask a neighbour: how fast you reply, whether you will hold a key, photos of the same job done on a static, and one tap to message you. Get that right and the quiet months stop being quiet.
Per village, no. Added together, yes, and hardly anybody is competing for them. Someone in Wetwang or Nafferton searches the village first and Driffield second, so we name the villages on your Driffield page instead of spinning up a thin page for each one. Out of season is the cheapest time to climb. The Bridlington resort trade swings with the summer, but the parks, the lets and the second homes along that coast need work all year, and a lot of it gets booked in the quiet months. Move through October and November and you are already sitting in the map pack when Easter comes round and the seafront fills up again.
